The basis of the Agreement on the implementation of joint activities of the CIS members states in the field of exploration and use of outer space for peaceful purposes is to establish legal and organizational foundations of multilateral cooperation in the field of exploration and use of outer space for peaceful purposes, as well as to support the creation of a legal basis for developing agreements and other arrangements regarding certain directions of joint space activities and concluding them between the sides and participants of joint activities. The RA Deputy Minister of High-Tech Industry Avet Poghosyan informed about this at the extraordinary sitting of the NA Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Diaspora, Youth and Sport convened on July 4.

The Committee debated the draft law on Ratifying the Agreement on the implementation of joint activities of the CIS members states in the field of exploration and use of outer space for peaceful purposes.

The document was signed by the governments of the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan on November 2, 2018.

The agreement entered into force on September 20, 2019.

It was ratified by the republics of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, the Russian Federation.

The co-rapporteur Narek Babayan informed that there is no disputable provision in the agreement, and it is desirable for Armenia to ratify it.

The deputy also informed that Azerbaijan has nothing to do with this agreement.

The Agreement on the implementation of joint activities of the CIS members states in the field of exploration and use of outer space for peaceful purposes was endorsed by the Committee. It is envisaged to debate it at the NA extraordinary session to be convened on July 6.
