Eduard Aghajanyan and Maria Karapetyan are in Lithuania on a Working Visit

The Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations, the Head of the RA NA Delegation to OSCE PA Eduard Aghajanyan and the Member of the RA NA Delegation to OSCE PA Maria Karapetyan were in the Republic of Lithuania on a working visit on May 24-25.

In Vilnius the Armenian parliamentarians met with the Head of the Committee on National Security and Defence of the Seimas Laurynas Kasčiūnas, the Head of Lithuania-Armenia Friendship Group of the Seimas Raimundas Lopata, the Head of the Delegation of the Seimas to the OSCE PA Vilija Aleknaite Abramikiene, the Co-President of the Euronest PA Andrius Kubilius and the Head of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Seimas Laima Liucija Andrikienė.

During the meetings issues regarding the regional security, the post-war situation, the democracy in Armenia, the anti-corruption toolkit, the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, the trilateral statement of November 9, 2020 and the protection Armenian cultural heritage were discussed.

The Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations, the Head of the RA NA Delegation to OSCE PA Eduard Aghajanyan underlined the importance of presenting the real situation in the South Caucasus and in Armenia to his Lithuanian colleagues. He presented the steps taken by the Republic of Armenia and stressed that Armenia fulfilled all the obligations assumed by the trilateral statement.

Touching upon the inner-political situation in the Republic of Armenia after the 44-day war, Eduard Aghajanyan noted that the citizens gave their votes for the peace agenda in the snap parliamentary elections on June 20, 2021.

The Member of the RA NA Delegation to OSCE PA Maria Karapetyan presented the steps taken for formation of the anti-corruption toolkit and the system and the recorded successes.

Underscoring that the security and democracy are closely inter-connected, Maria Karapetyan assured that the power of the Republic of Armenia has political will for rooting the institutional structures in fight against corruption.

Reference was made also to the post-war situation, media manipulations, fake news and their influence on people.

Eduard Aghajanyan assured that the long-term peace agenda is a cornerstone one for the power of the Republic of Armenia, and the practical steps aimed at it are not noticeable by Azerbaijan. Giving details about the cases of different volumes and scale of the ceasefire violation by Azerbaijan, he presented the case of cutting off the gas pipeline passing from Azerbaijan to Artsakh, because of which the population of Artsakh was in humanitarian crisis.
