Director of OIF Regional Center for Central and Eastern Europe Hosted in Parliament

On November 30, the Head of the RA NA Delegation to Parliamentary Assembly of La Francofonie Arman Yeghoyan and the members of the Delegation met with the Director of the Regional Center for Central and Eastern Europe of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (IOF) Eric Poppe.

Welcoming the guest, Arman Yeghoyan congratulated Eric Poppe on the occasion of being appointed in the post of the Regional Center Director. According to the Head of the Armenian Delegation in the structure, Armenia is one of the active members of the International Organisation of La Francophonie.

The Armenian parliamentarians spoke about the Artsakh second war and its aftermath, presented the situation in the region. It was noted that during the war unleashed by Azerbaijan the adversary violated almost all norms of the international humanitarian law, deliberately bombing the civil and regional buildings. According to Arman Yeghoyan, the IOF is a forerunner in the protection of human rights. “I think that the political expediencies should not be subjugated to this great mission,” the deputy underlined, expressing hope that by appointing Eric Poppe the approaches on the abovementioned issues would be essentially changed for the benefit of justice and international law.

The legislators also touched upon the issue of Armenian prisoners of war held in Azerbaijan and the invasion of the Azerbaijani armed forces into the sovereign territory of Armenia.

Arman Yeghoyan underscored the concerned attitude shown by the International Organisation of La Francophonie and particularly, the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie during the 44-day war and after that.

Eric Poppe highly assessed the special role of Armenia in Francophonie. He has stated that Armenia as a French speaking country in the region is of key importance for them.

The guest has noted that the mass media and the ideology of freedom are the priorities of the OIF activities and spoke about their initiatives in that sphere. They are aimed at giving new opportunities to the young journalists in carrying out activities in the sphere.

The interlocutors stressed the important role of French University in Armenia in spreading the French language.
