On November 28, the RA NA President Alen Simonyan met with the Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Martin Chungong in Madrid.

Alen Simonyan has noted that since the membership of the RA National Assembly to the Inter-Parliamentary Union in 1995, the RA Parliament has always actively participated in the work of the organization, highlighting the principles and universal values to which the Inter-Parliamentary Union is adhered.

Both sides discussed the issues related to the protection of human rights in Armenia, the realization of fundamental human and citizen rights and freedoms, the representation of women and youth in different spheres. Alen Simonyan informed that the RA National Assembly joined the initiative of the Inter-Parliamentary Union - “I Say Yes to Youth in Parliament!”.

The talk was held about the reforms being implemented in the country after the snap parliamentary elections held on June 20, 2021 in the RA, and the legislation being drafted. The Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union expressed satisfaction with the RA NA involvement in the work of the union, privatizing that the deputies of Armenia were members of the bureaus of the Standing Committees of the structure, the bureau of female MPs and Special Committees.

At the end of the meeting, the RA NA President has reaffirmed that the RA NA will do everything possible to support the further deepening of the inter-parliamentary cooperation.
