Debate on Amendments and Addenda Being Designed to Law on Mass Media
1 / 10

On October 21, on the initiative of the members of the NA Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Diaspora, Youth and Sport Elinar Vardanyan and Lilit Galstyan a debate on the amendments and addenda being designed to the law on Mass Media was organized in parliament, where representatives from mass media, executive and legislative bodies took part.

As Lilit Galstyan has assessed, the draft law under debate is an initiative threatening the freedom of information, which essentially impedes the just outreach of information, carrying out inadmissible restrictions of freedom of information.

Elinar Vardanyan has touched upon the amendments being proposed by the draft law, noting that the freedom of speech is restricted.

According to the deputy of the RA NA Armenia Faction Aram Vardevanyan, the mass media should freely enact, the Constitution guarantees that freedom.

In the opinion of Zhoghovurd daily journalist Sevak Vardumyan, the media, publishing the information coming from anonymous, fake, telegram channels, Facebook will have problems. In his word, any journalist respecting himself first should understand where that informationis, what bases it has and shall be ready to be responsible for it.

During the debate the journalists’ accreditation, fight against fakes, the fines set by the draft law on the report transparency were also touched upon.
