On October 4, the delegation led by the RA NA Speaker Alen Simonyan being in the Russian Federation on an official visit met with the RF Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov.

Welcoming the RA NA Speaker, the RF Minister of Foreign Affairs highly appreciated the Armenian-Russian strategic and partnership relations, considering also the fact that the RA NA Speaker paid his first official visit to Russia.

Thanking Sergei Lavrov for the reception, Alen Simonyan conveyed congratulations to the Russian people on the parliamentary elections recently held.

The sides discussed the situation in the region in detail, referring to the establishment of lasting peace and the elimination of problems impeding the implementation of it. In that context, the issue of return of the Armenian prisoners of war and civilians was particularly highlighted.

It was also referred to the Armenian-Russian cooperation in political, economic, cultural, humanitarian and other spheres. During the talk, the role of parliaments in the development and strengthening of the bilateral cooperation was especially highlighted.

Both sides also highlighted the effective cooperation within the frameworks of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly and the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, taking into account the priorities of the Armenian presidency.

At the end of the meeting, the RA NA Speaker Alen Simonyan thanked the RF Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov for the significant contribution to the development of the Armenian-Russian cooperation.
