On September 30, the members of the RA NA Standing Committee on Labor and Social Affairs met with the Chairwoman of the Branch Republican Union of the Banks, Financial Institutions Employees and Trade Unions Professional Employees of Armenia and the Executive Director of the RA Credit Organizations’ Union Khoren Kerobyan. The goal of the meeting was the debate of the problems facing in the sphere of the activity of the trade unions.
In December 2000 the law on Trade Unions was passed, which set the order of the foundation of the trade unions, the principles of their activities and the format of the authorities. However, as the Committee Chair Heriknaz Tigranyan has underlined that the trade unions don’t have sufficient legal toolsets for effectively implementing their mission.
At the same time, Heriknaz Tigranyan has noted that it is distinctly in the Government programme about the role of the trade union organizations and the rise of the importance, as well as the necessity of strengthening them as bodies implementing non-state oversight towards the employees’ representation and working legislation.
The trust of the latter is an important precondition in the basis of joining the trade unions which supposes the transparency and accountability of the activities, as well as the direct suit of the protection of the employee’s violated right in the court. “Nowadays’ trade unions should have reformed legislation and strengthened toolset,” Heriknaz Tigranyan said.
The representatives of the sphere talked about the problems of the sphere and also emphasized the international cooperation. The rapporteurs affirmed that the trade unions should not be politicized, but should serve their main goal – the protection of the employees’ interests.
