Issues on Armenia-Diaspora Cooperation Debated at NA Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs

On September 23, initiated by the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs Taguhi Tovmasyan, a working meeting was held with the RA High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs Zareh Sinanyan and the Advisor to the Artsakh President, the President's representative at large on Diaspora issues Azatouhi Simonyan. The main theme was - The problems of Armenia-Diaspora Cooperation and the Ways for Solving Them.

The Chair of the Standing Committee underlined the importance of solving the existing problems in a legislative way and expressed readiness to support on that issue.

Zareh Sinanyan thoroughly presented the situation in the sphere, referred to the problems on safety, economic, educational and state structures arising during Armenia-Diaspora cooperation. Regarding the repatriation, he has emphasized the absence of infrastructure which impedes the solution of the issues. The High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs has informed that in the near future, the Repatriation Center will be built in the center of the capital with the support of Hrayr Ohanyan Foundation, and it will function with the principle of one window, will solve many problems related to the integration of Diaspora Armenians. According to Zareh Sinanyan, the construction works are carried out in the center.

It has been also noted that some of our compatriots immigrated from Syria, Lebanon and other countries leave Armenia because of bureaucratic obstacles.

Azatouhi Simonyan considered the strengthening of the partner relations related to Armenia-Diaspora cooperation important. She has referred to the legislative restrictions, which do not allow Diaspora Armenians to work in the executive and elective bodies of Armenia, to promote the development of our country with their experience and professional skills.

During the meeting, other problems of the sphere were touched upon. It has been stated that similar meetings will be continuous.
