On September 23, the RA NA President Alen Simonyan received the Delegation headed by the UN Resident Coordinator in Armenia Shombi Sharp.
The Chairs of the NA Standing Committees, the NA Chief of Staff, Secretary General and his deputies also took part in the meeting.
Welcoming the guests, Alen Simonyan highly assessed the, effective activities of the UN Office in Armenia many spheres. The RA NA President highlighted the continuity of the joint programmes and its development perspectives.
Shombi Sharp congratulated Alen Simonyan on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of independence of the Republic of Armenia, underlining the high level of democracy of holding the last parliamentary elections of our country. In this context he stressed the role of parliament as a microphone of people.
The UN Resident Coordinator congratulated the parliamentarians on being selected for a 2021 United Nations Inter-Agency Task Force (UNIATF) award. The award is related to the enactment of a landmark tobacco control law by the National Assembly.
Speaking about the UN mission in Armenia, Shombi Sharp reaffirmed the readiness for the support to strengthen the capabilities of parliament and to implement the reforms in the parliamentary frameworks in different formats by the organization.
During the meeting the sides discussed the chronology of the roadmap development for further cooperation.
