Eduard Aghajanyan Meets with Delegation Headed by EU Special Representative
1 / 8

On September 14, the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Eduard Aghajanyan met with the Delegation headed by the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the Crisis in Georgia Toivo Klaar.

The member of the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Maria Karapetyan and the Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Andrea Wiktorin also attended the meeting.

Welcoming the guests, Eduard Aghajanyan has noted that Armenia highly appreciates the cooperation with the EU. The Committee Chair underlined the EU efforts in the restoration of the peace process during the war and after that.

The maintenance of peace in the region was touched upon. According to Eduard Aghajanyan, Armenia is ready to take practical steps for establishing long-term peace in the region, but the invasion of the Azerbaijani armed forces into the RA sovereign territory, the fact of having Armenian prisoners of war and other detainees do not promote the re-establishment of peace in the region. In this context the Committee Chair highlighted the role of the European counterparts, particularly imposing pressure on Azerbaijan: under the auspices of the Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship return to the negotiation process.

The EU Special Representative Toivo Klaar has noted that the EU wants to contribute to the establishment of peace in the region.

The sides also discussed issues on the RA-EU cooperation agenda.
