On August 31, the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Eduard Aghajanyan met with the Head of the Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Armenia Thierry Ribaux and the Head of Communication and Prevention Programmes Zara Amatuni.

The issues related to the settlement of the Artsakh conflict, the return of the captives of the Armenian side and the missing persons were discussed. The implementation of steps directed to the legal protection of missing persons was highlighted.

Eduard Aghajanyan highlighted the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, noting that the people should be prepared for peace. The Committee Chair presented to the guest in detail the steps envisaged by the Government five-year programme.

Thierry Ribaux presented the activities implemented by the ICRC in the post-war period, emphasizing the coordinated work of the organization in the region between the offices of Yerevan, Baku and Nagorno-Karabakh. He has assured that the ICRC makes every effort to control the captives’ conditions and the treatment towards them. The representatives of the organization regularly visit the Armenian captives and help them to keep in touch with the families. It has been stated that the ICRC will continue to carry out its humanitarian mission as a neutral mediator on a number of issues, including the assistance for the borderline population and the problems of the missing persons and their families.
