Parliament Debates Item of Electing RA NA Vice Presidents

At August 3 sitting, the parliament continued the works.

The Secretary of the RA NA Armenia Faction Artsvik Minasyan stated that yesterday, the election of the RA NA President was held without the two candidates’ participation. Therefore, they consider that election illegal and will apply to the Constitutional Court with the demand to recognize the electoral process unconstitutional. The issue of confirming the fact of illegally depriving the deputies of their freedom in the presence of immunity will be litigated in the Constitutional Court.

The representative of the RA NA With Honor Faction Hayk Mamijanyan, reaffirming that the process of the yesterday’s elections was held in violation of the provisions of the Constitution, has informed that they will litigate the issue in the Constitutional Court too.

Then the MPs debated the next agenda item on the elections of three Vice Presidents of the Parliament.

The Head of the RA NA Civil Contract Faction Hayk Konjoryan nominated Ruben Rubinyan and Hakob Arshakyan as candidates for the posts of the NA Vice Presidents.

The Head of the RA NA Armenia Faction Seyran Ohanyan nominated Ishkhan Saghatelyan as a candidate for the post of the NA Vice President.

The deputy of the RA NA Civil Contract Faction Arusyak Julhakyan presented Ruben Rubinyan’s biography and activities.

In his speech, Ruben Rubinyan, thanking the Civil Contract for nominating him as a candidate, has noted that it is greatest honor and responsibility first of all to the people who have given a mandate of trust. He congratulated the Armenia and With Honor Factions on being present in parliament. “I am proud that the velvet revolution and the second free and fair national elections followed by it have given an opportunity to both the power and the opposition to hold really political, civilized and tolerant political disputes.”

The speaker has proposed to analyze and understand the mistakes of the last 30 years in tolerant atmosphere as much as possible, to hold discussions of the programs related to the future of the country and to show everyone that the Armenian people have not surrendered, they have not been broken and will defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity, also through the political, diplomatic means.

He announced that the political crisis was over and proposed to try to implement the will of the people together in the framework of the given mandate. Ruben Rubinyan has noted that he will spare no effort to turn the tribune of the parliament into the high-quality politically sharp, but at the same time into a center of tolerant speech.

The candidate also answered to the deputies’ questions.
