During the first session of the RA NA eighth convocation, the parliament debated the item of electing the RA NA President.

The Head of the NA Civil Contract Faction Hayk Konjoryan noted that pursuant to Article 136 of the Constitutional Law – the NA Rules of Procedure, the faction nominates Alen Simonyan as a candidate for the post of the NA President.

The Head of the NA Armenia Faction Seyran Ohanyan nominated Mkhitar Zakaryan as a candidate on behalf of their faction, and the Head of I Have Honor Faction Artur Vanetsyan nominated the deputy of Armenia Faction Artur Sargsyan as a candidate on behalf of their faction.

The Secretary of the NA Armenia Faction Artsvik Minasyan introduced Mkhitar Zakaryan’s biography and activities, substantiating the importance of nomination, too. According to him, the candidate is not only able to lead the NA through his past path and life experience, but also, he has an opportunity to organize the work of the parliament so that each deputy and faction has the opportunity to exercise their rights.

The deputy from the NA I Have Honor Faction Hayk Mamijanyan presented the candidate for the NA President Artur Sargsyan, referring to his biographical data, professional features and his passed path.

In the questions addressed to Artsvik Minasyan and Hayk Mamijanyan, the opposition deputies have referred to the detention of the nominated candidates, considering the circumstance of them being in prison unacceptable. It was stated that according to the order established by Article 96.2 of the Constitution, the deputy cannot be in prison without the consent of the National Assembly.

The candidate for the NA President, the Head of the NA Civil Contract Faction Hayk Konjoryan presented Alen Simonyan’s biographical data and activities. He documented that the candidate nominated by them has always been at the forefront of the civil and political struggle and standing at the position for protecting the citizens’ rights.

“I am sure that after being elected as the NA President, Alen Simonyan will continue that mission for the sake of the Republic of Armenia, for the sake of our future, our citizens and our people,” underlined Hayk Konjoryan. According to him, Alen Simonyan, and the Civil Contract Faction are the representatives of the “steel mandate” firmly registered by the RA people in the hall. The Head of the Faction urged to vote for the nominated candidacy.

In his speech, the candidate for the NA President Alen Simonyan thanked the Civil Contract Party for nominating him as a candidate.

The Chairperson of the NA Accounting Committee Narek Babayan presented the voting order for electing the RA NA President.
