Special Sitting of National Assembly Convened by Force of Law
1 / 21

On May 3, pursuant to Article 140.3 of the constitutional law the Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly, a special sitting of the National Assembly was convened by force of law. The item of the Prime Minister’s election was on the agenda.

The Head of My Step Faction Lilit Makunts presented the Prime Minister’s candidate. “As a result of negotiations pursued by the Prime Minister, an agreement was reached with the RA President, the NA Prosperous Armenia and Bright Armenia factions to hold snap parliamentary elections on June 20, and the legislation set one version for it – the dissolution of the National Assembly, which could happen in case of not electing twice the Prime Minister’s candidate. My Step Faction nominated Nikol Pashinyan’s candidacy for that very reason,” the Head of the Faction concluded.

Afterwards the RA Prime Minister’s candidate Nikol Pashinyan delivered a speech.

“Today is the first phase of the elections. During this period many debates and speculations were about some forces trying at a moment to develop other scenario at the second phase. Previously I have said that if there will be attempts to break agreements, then My Step Faction has a ready solution: they will elect a Prime Minister. And I hope that attempts will not be made to break agreements in any way,” Nikol Pashinyan noted.

Then the Acting Prime Minister touched upon other themes, particularly the coronavirus vaccination. He said that he had already been vaccinated and called on everybody to follow his example.
