At Sitting of RA NA Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs

On April 27, the RA NA Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs convened its regular sitting moderated by Naira Zohrabyan.

The MPs debated the sections: everybody’s equality before the law, justice, the protection of human rights, as well as the overcoming of poverty, the social protection and the demography included in the report on the procedure and the results of the RA Government programme for 2019 approved by the 8-h N 65-A decision of the RA Government of 8 February 2019. The RA Deputy Minister of Justice Srbuhi Galyan presented the work done by the Government in the legal reform. She has noted that the reforms in the sphere of protection of human rights will be of continuous character, and the Government.

The RA Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Zaruhi Batoyan presented the works implemented in the spheres led by her.

The Committee debated the annual programme on the Activity of the RA Human Rights Defender, the Situation of the Protection of Human Rights and Freedoms during 2019 and the annual report on the Activity of the RA Human Rights Defender for 2019 as National Preventive Mechanisms presented by the RA Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan.

Arman Tatoyan expressed concern on the systemized problems existing in different spheres.

The bill on Making Amendments and Addenda to the RA Criminal Code authored by the RA NA Bright Armenia Faction was debated in the first reading. The key reporter Ani Samsonyan gave details about the bill.

The draft law was revised based on the recommendations presented by the Government and the Chamber of Advocates.

The Committee did not endorse the draft law.

The MPs debated and endorsed the item on Ratifying Council of Europe Convention on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse.

The key speaker, the RA Deputy Minister of Justice Kristine Grigoryan informed that the Convention was signed by 47 states and entered into force for 45 states.
