Debate on Situation in Egg Market in National Assembly
1 / 8

In recent days the egg price essentially declined in the local market. Today we can buy eggs beginning from 19 drams, which has become a reason for debates in the society. On February 13, a working debate was organized on the initiative of the RA NA Standing Committee on Economic Affairs to study the problem.

The Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Territorial Administration, Local Self-Government, Agriculture and Environment Varazdat Karapetyan has informed that a lawsuit was filed on this issue in the State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition (SCPEC).

The SCPEC Chairman Gegham Gevorgyan noted that the egg price decline began on the New Year Eve and after that, which according to him, is an abnormal phenomenon during this period. The deflation in the market has an influence on the competitive environment.

Gegham Gevorgyan denied the news circulating in the press that egg was imported to the republic. “Egg import to the Republic of Armenia has not been recorded,” the SCPEC Chairman noted.

The speaker has informed that the entities claim that the created situation is conditioned by egg overproduction.

The SCPEC Chairman also answered to the MPs’ questions.
