Issues on Prevention and Treatment of Tuberculosis Disease Discussed

On December 9, at the RA NA Standing Committee on Health Care and Social Affairs moderated by Narek Zeynalyan a discussion was held with the deputies and stakeholders on the theme The National Anti-Impact of Tuberculosis, the Problems of Tuberculosis in Armenia, the Operation of Tuberculosis National Platform.

The Chair of the Standing Committee has noted that the tuberculosis (TB) is not a health, but also a social problem. He considered important the joint fight against prevention, spreading and development of the disease with the support of the international structures up to its elimination in our country. Narek Zeynalyan underlined the importance of the cooperation with the RA Ministry of Health, the NGOs and other stakeholders, particularly the World Health Organization (WHO), as well as the operation of the TB National Center.

The Chairman of the Standing Committee on Health Care and Social Issues of the Parliament of Georgia Akaki Zoidze highlighted the regional cooperation and noted that the two countries registered good indices due to the efforts made and documented the decrease of the morbidity and mortality. He stressed the parliamentarians’ role in increasing the budgetary sums for the elimination of the disease.

The Representative of the WHO Armenia Office Egor Zaitsev has noted that the TB comes from the antic period and also considered important the complex and joint fight against it. He expressed hope that until 2030 the disease will be overcome.

The RA Deputy Minister of Health Lena Nanushyan talked about the achievements of the fight against the disease.

The Head of the National TB Centre of the RA Ministry of Health Lyubov Nikolayan presented the situation of the disease in the country and informed that due to the effective work decrease of morbidity and mortality was registered during 2008-2018. It was noted that the situation was improved in the penitentiary institutions, but increase of morbidity patterns were registered at childhood.

The representatives of the NGOs presented viewpoints. Narek Zeynalyan and the MPs have signed Barcelona Declaration which assures the importance of fight against the disease.
