U.S. Ambassador Fully Supports Reforms Being Implemented in RA: NA President Receives Lynne Tracy

On November 8, the President of the RA National Assembly Ararat Mirzoyan received the U.S. Ambassador to Armenia Lynne Tracy, who was accompanied by the U.S. Embassy’s Deputy Chief of Mission Christopher Smith and the Mission Director in the USAID/Armenia Deborah Grieser.

Welcoming the guests Ararat Mirzoyan touched upon the adoption of the Resolution 296 by the House of Representatives of the United States Congress. “I think that this is a very important step perhaps not only or not as for Armenia, but for the U.S. and the whole mankind, because everybody knows that through the recognition and condemnation of such crimes it is only possible to prevent the repetition of such crimes. I hope that in the visible future this process will reach to its complete end, and we can close this page,” the RA NA President said. He has also welcomed the increase of the financial support being provided to Armenia by the U.S. by 40% and has noted that the spheres for which this support is indicated are very important for Armenia: fight against corruption, protection of human rights, energy reforms, etc. The NA President once again has reaffirmed that the democratic developments that happened and are happening in Armenia serve as a new basis to reach the relations between the RA and the U.S. to a new level and more develop.

Thanking for the reception Lynne Tracy has noted that she is very happy for the increase of the financial support being provided to Armenia and proposed to discuss the details of its use.

During the meeting a large scope of items regarding Armenia-U.S. partnership was discussed: the directions on which the parties would cooperate. The sides reflected upon the fight against corruption the judiciary and police reforms, the cooperation during the legislative reforms, as well as the new programs to be implemented with the U.S. support, particularly, in the spheres of tourism, the management of the water resources, the IT, the agriculture and a number of other spheres.

The Ambassador expressed satisfaction with the works of the Armenian side and reaffirmed the full support of the United States to the RA authorities and the democratic reforms being underway.

Ararat Mirzoyan emphasized the exchange of experience with the U.S. during the reforms being implemented in Armenia.
