Issues on Development of Armenian-Iranian Relations Discussed

On November 7, the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Defense and Security Andranik Kocharyan and the deputies Armen Khachatryan, Gor Gevorgyan met with the delegation led by the Deputy Chairman of the Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Parliament of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mohammad Javad Jamali Nobandegani, and the MP of Armenian origin of the Iranian Parliament George Abrahamian was in the delegation.

Andranik Kocharyan has documented that the two peoples live together through many centuries side by side and, according to him the Armenian-Iranian relations always shall be at high level. He underlined that during 30 years Iran had been next to Armenia, showed support in the sphere of energy and in other spheres.

According to Mohammad Javad Jamali Nobandegani, the friendly relations between Iran and Armenia should be more deepened, and the format of cooperation in different spheres should be expanded. The development of the inter-parliamentary relations and the activities of the Parliamentary Friendship Groups should be emphasized. In this context the MP of Armenian origin George Abrahamian underlined the rise of the parliamentary diplomacy role.

The interlocutors touched upon regional problems. The importance of the joint fight against terrorism was stressed.

As the NA deputy Gor Gevorgyan has assured, in the issue of regional security Iran is one of the important partners of Armenia.

At the meeting other issues of bilateral interest were also discussed.
