President of RA National Assembly Receives Chief Executive Officer of Open Government Partnership Initiative

On October 31, the President of the RA National Assembly Ararat Mirzoyan received Sanjay Pradhan, the Chief Executive Officer of Open Government Partnership (OGP) Initiative.

Welcoming the guest the NA President has stressed that the values of the organization led by him coincide with our values, and Armenia shares those values. “The priority of the right, the rule of law and the fight against corruption are closely connected with transparency, accountability. We adopted these very principles and strategic vision after the revolution happened last year. In parallel with these events a transition from the semi-presidential government system to parliamentary system took place in Armenia, and we are very glad that the Open Government Partnership extends its authorities trying to carry out actions in the parliamentary government besides executive branch. This indeed fully coincides with our approaches,” Ararat Mirzoyan said. He noted that the RA National Assembly had already taken certain steps in this direction, particularly had opened the doors of the Parliament Park before the citizens. Now, the National Assembly is planning to found Visitors’ Centre in order the citizens could also take a tour to the territory of the parliament, create interactive web-portal, Analytical Expertise Centre and other numerous things.

Sanjay Pradhan has underlined that Armenia has an important role in the Open Government Partnership Initiative and in the framework of 79 countries of the initiative as a country recorded democratic impressive progress. He stated that the Velvet revolution was a great impetus given by the RA citizens which expressed the will of implementing changes in the country. Sanjay Pradhan has announced that the Open Government Partnership is ready to fully support Armenia on the way to democracy. he presented to the President of the RA National Assembly a number of proposals which could raise the citizens’ trust to the reforms, as well as expressed willingness to back during the anti-corruption, economic and judicial reforms.
