Lena Nazaryan Meets with the UN Under-Secretary-General Rosemary DiCarlo

On October 29, the RA NA Vice President Lena Nazaryan, the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Ruben Rubinyan, the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on European Integration Arman Yeghoyan, the RA NA deputy Tatevik Hayrapetyan met with the delegation headed by Rosemary DiCarlo, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs and Peacebuilding Affairs.

Welcoming the guest in the parliament, Lena Nazaryan has presented the Velvet revolution that happened last year and the changes following it which are directed to the strengthening of democracy. The NA Vice President touched upon the snap parliamentary elections held in December 2018, which corresponded with free, fair and democratic standards, and as a result of which the legislative body has been formed. In this context Lena Nazaryan underlined the support of the UN in organizing the preparatory works of the elections.

Expressing her gratitude to the NA Vice President for the reception Rosemary DiCarlo has noted that it’s a pleasure for her to be in Armenia, has congratulated the Armenian people for carrying out the democratic revolution and get interested in the changes being expected in the near future.

As priorities the judiciary reforms, the fight against corruption, the creation of the anti-corruption body and the development of economic directions were underlined.

Highlighting the rise of the women’s role in the public-political life, the Vice President of the parliament informed the guest that Armenia had been elected member of the UN Commission on the Status of Women.

The interlocutors exchanged ideas on the regional and international urgent issues.

Arman Yeghoyan and Ruben Rubinyan have stressed that the Nagorno Karabakh issue is not a territorial dispute, but a dispute caused as a consequence of permanent violation of Artsakh people’s rights and fundamental freedoms.

The NA Vice President Lena Nazaryan has underscored that Armenia sees the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement in the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship and exclusively by peaceful means.
