President of RA National Assembly Meets with Secretary General of the Council of Europe Marija Pejčinović Burić in Strasbourg

On October 24, within the framework of the Conference of Presidents of Parliament of the Member States of the Council of Europe the President of the RA National Assembly Ararat Mirzoyan met with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe Marija Pejčinović Burić in Strasbourg.

Marija Pejčinović Burić has noted that the Council of Europe observes with great attention and enthusiasm the reforms being implemented in Armenia, especially in the judicial-legal sphere, in this context underlining the NA important role. Urging to continue the reforms, the CoE Secretary General expressed willingness to continue the support being implemented by the organization.

Ararat Mirzoyan has noted that on the path of the reforms Armenia is ready to listen to everybody’s opinions that there is close cooperation with the CoE all structures, and Armenia is adamant to bring to an end the reforms. Ararat Mirzoyan touched upon the circumstances impeding the reforms and also talked about the situation created over the Constitutional Court.

In response to his words Marija Pejčinović Burić has stressed that Armenia is an exemplary country in terms of cooperation with the CoE all structures.

The parties discussed the procedure of the fulfillment of the international obligations, also reflecting upon the investment of the effective mechanisms of preventing violence towards women and children. Marija Pejčinović Burić has underlined that stemming from the experience of her country she sees the existing complexities and has considered inadmissible the attempts of making the fight against violence a matter of inner-political speculation.
