Mkhitar Hayrapetyan: The Weakening of Mekhitarist Congregation is Inadmissible

On September 27, the Chair of the NA Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Diaspora, Youth and Sport Mkhitar Hayrapetyan and the NA President’s Adviser David Karapetyan received the Papal Legate for the Mekhitarist Congregation of Venice, Primate of the Armenian Catholic Diocese in Turkey, His Eminence Archbishop Levon Zekiyan and Father Eghia Kilaghbjyan.

When in July of this year the problem of one of the Educational Centres of Mekhitarist Congregation, Samuel Muradian College in Sèvres Mkhitar Hayrapetyan met with His Eminence Archbishop Levon Zekiyan in Venice, discussing not only the challenges facing Muradian College, but also in general, the Congregation. At the same time on behalf of the Armenian authorities the Committee Chair expressed readiness for searching joint solutions from the created situation.

During today’s meeting the versions of practical steps and comprehensive, package solutions to support the Mekhitarist Congregation were discussed. Mkhitar Hayrapetyan once again stressed the position of the state in this issue: “The weakening of Mekhitarist Congregation is inadmissible for us, as we should back them in any way to get on our feet and get strengthened.”

At the end of the meeting the Committee Chair noted that such discussions would be of continuous character.
