Issue of Herouni National Cosmic Centre Debated

On July 8, on the initiative of the deputy of the RA National Assembly Bright Armenia, the member of the Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Diaspora, Youth and Sport Anna Karapetyan a working debate was organized in the RA National Assembly on Herouni United Cosmic Center. MPs, representatives from the Metrology National Institute and the Jurisdiction Armenia Foundation took part in the meeting.

The Deputy Chair of the Committee Hovhannes Hovhannisyan presented the general picture of the problems on the science. Highlighting the necessity of the debates in such format, he has noted that there are controversial issues in the system.

Anna Kostanyan has noted that the goal of the debate is to disclose the existing problems and try to find more effective solutions.

The Head of Herouni United Cosmic Center Arevik Sargsyan has informed that in March 2019 the RA Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan put into circulation a draft law, according to which, Aragats Scientific Center functioning in the Metrology National Institute with its all assets is transferred to the Jurisdiction Armenia Foundation for implementing investment programme and forming eco-system of scientific-production and educational importance. The Center does a number of research and applicable works in the sphere of high technologies. It has been many years that a draft law on creation of Herouni United Cosmic Center and ROD-54/2.6 telescope re-operation has been initiated. Active debates have been held with the government, well-known scientists of the sphere and the representatives of the concerned organizations.

According to the Acting Director of the Metrology National Institute Albert Babayan, after the relevant decision a number of problems have been emerged.

To his conviction, during the meeting with the representatives of the government the issues concerning the possibilities of the telescope operation and the technical demands will be debated.
