Naira Zohrabyan Receives Representatives of Human Rights Watch Organization

On May 16, the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs Naira Zohrabyan received the Deputy Director for Disability Rights Division at Human Rights Organization Jane Buchanan and the Associate Director of Europe and Central Asia Division Giorgi Gogia.

During the meeting the problems of the children with disabilities were discussed.

Naira Zohrabyan has noted that only the children belonging to this group, but also the mature people have had and today have a problem of being integrated into the society. The Committee Chair has shown to the guests the recording, where she experiences all access ramps in Yerevan in the wheelchair of the disabled, and the prevailing majority is not adjusted to the wheelchair of the disability. Naira Zohrabyan has underlined that the issue of that layer inclusiveness is one of the unsolved problems.

The Committee Chair informed that in the near future a legislative initiative on the persons with disabilities would be presented to the parliament, on which the Prosperous Armenia Faction would propose revolutionary approaches. According to Naira Zohrabyan, the money being allocated by the government shall be distributed in a right way and given to the families of the children with disabilities, in order the latter remains in the family. Jane Buchanan also defended the Committee Chair's this viewpoint. Naira Zohrabyan also considered necessary the provision of the social and medical service to those families.

Jane Buchanan has noted that the NA Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs can always receive the consultative support of their division of Human Rights Watch organization in the elaboration of the relevant law, moving the children from such institutions to their families and keeping there right distribution of the resources.
