On April 7, the President of the National Assembly Ararat Mirzoyan met with the President of the House of Representatives of Cyprus Demetris Syllouris within the framework of the 140th Session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

The President of the National Assembly has underlined the firm ties created between the two friendly peoples, which are conditioned by the historical-cultural, spiritual commonalities with system of values. Ararat Mirzoyan noted that Cyprus was the first country in Europe and the second in the world, which recognized the Armenian Genocide and condemned this crime. The National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia in its turn unanimously adopted a statement condemning the genocide perpetrated against Pontian Greeks and Assyrians by the Ottoman Empire.

The Head of the Armenian Parliament highlighted the problem of ratification of the RA-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement within short terms.

The Head of the Cypriot Parliament, welcoming his colleague, noted that on the previous week the RA-EU Agreement was sent to the legislative body, and assured that it would be ratified within short terms. Demetris Syllouris invited Ararat Mirzoyan to pay an official visit to Cyprus. The President of the National Assembly gladly accepted the invitation.

In the course of the meeting the interlocutors also discussed the proposal of creating Cyprus-Armenia-Greece parliamentary cooperation tripartite format and expressed readiness for making efforts in calling into life the initiative.
