Development of Armenia-European Union Cooperation Highlighted

On March 19, the RA NA Standing Committee on European Integration hosted the delegation led by Lawrence Meredith, the Director for Neighbourhood East, DG Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR), European Commission being in Armenia on a working visit. The Head of the EU delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Piotr Świtalski took part in the meeting.

A number of issues concerning Armenia-European Union were discussed. The Chair of the Standing Committee on European Integration presented to his colleagues of the European Union details on the application process of the RA-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement.

Within the framework of the authorities of the institution led by him Lawrence Meredith expressed readiness to show expertise support to the parliament and the Committee, particularly for quick implementation of the application of the Agreement through the EU institutional cooperation of Twinning and Taiex.

The sides also touched upon the experience of the Eastern European and Western Balkan countries' European integration and its instructive and applicable sides for Armenia.

Thoughts were exchanged on the issues concerning the inter-parliamentary cooperation, the deepening of the parliamentary ties and the works to be done in that direction were emphasized.

In the context of the RA-EU Agreement application Arman Yeghoyan touched upon the urgent priorities, highlighting the support of the European Union particularly for the development of the spheres of sub-structures, road and reservoir construction and energy. The development programme of the sub-structures worked out by the European Union and all six countries of the Eastern Partnership were touched upon, and the perspectives and details of the implementation of the programme in Armenia were discussed.
