Ararat Mirzoyan Receives Director General of the Directorate for Human Rights and Rule of Law of the Council of Europe

On March 4, the President of the RA National Assembly Ararat Mirzoyan received Christos Giakoumopoulos, Director General of the Directorate for Human Rights and Rule of Law of the Council of Europe and the Head of the Council of Europe in Yerevan Natalia Voutova.

Welcoming the guests Ararat Mirzoyan has noted that Armenia greatly highlights the cooperation with the Council of Europe, as well as the continuous support of the organization in the democratization process of our country. The President of the National Assembly has added that there is active cooperation with Council of Europe Office in Yerevan.

According to the Head of the parliament, during these years Armenia continuously has fulfilled the obligations assumed by the membership of the organization, and in that direction our country has a considerable progress also conditioned by the support of the organization.

The Head of the legislative body has added that as a result of non violent, velvet, democratic revolution occurred in 2018, Armenia took an essential step in the protection of human rights and democracy, rule of law. Ararat Mirzoyan has assured that the new authorities of Armenia are consistent in the continuous development and deepening of democracy.

Thanking for the reception, Christos Giakoumopoulos highlighted the effective cooperation and joint programmes being implemented with Armenia through many years.

Noting that there is significant progress in the protection of human rights in Armenia, in the implementation of the reforms Christos Giakoumopoulos has expressed readiness of cooperation and support.

Touching upon the programmes implemented within the frameworks of the Action Plan Armenia-Council of Europe, the recorded results, as well as the issues concerning the new Action Plan, the Head of the legislative body has reaffirmed that Armenia will be consistent for the full and complete implementation of the Action Second Plan and in this phase rather voluminous and deep reforms are designed.
