Press Conference of Members of RA NA Standing Committee on Regional And Eurasian Integration Held

At February 19 press conference, the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Regional and Eurasian Integration Mikayel Melkumyan and the members of the Committee Armen Pambukhchyan, Vagharshak Hakobyan, Armen Yeghiazaryan and Aleksey Sandikov presented details on the debates held with the delegation led by the Chair of the Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Links with Compatriots of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Leonid Kalashnikov. The delegation was in Armenia on February 13-15 at Mikayel Melkumyan’s invitation.

The Committee Chair has informed that issues concerning Armenia-Russia bilateral relations as well as the cooperation within the EEU framework were discussed with the Russian colleagues, and distinct agreements were reached on some of them.

The colleagues discussed the issues relating to the harmonization of the national legislations within the EEU framework and removing the ban on use of the Armenian driver’s license on the RF territory. The Committee members have cleared that the problem refers to the driver’s license and has noted that in the future a legislative amendment – removing the existing restriction. The Committee Chair had a difficulty to note distinct terms, According to Committee members, the issue of the Armenian drivers’ license in the RF could be considered solved.

The issues on deportation of some Armenian migrants, the decrease of duty free of the first need some kinds of goods being imported to Armenia from the EEU member countries, having alternative roads were also discussed.

Touching upon the usefulness of the cooperation within the EEU format Mikayel Melkumyan noted that the volumes of the RA-RF goods turnover had abruptly grown during recent two years, what we could not say for the other EEU member countries. The Committee Chair is sure that there won’t be good results unless Armenia has no entry and exit roads.

Mikayel Melkumyan has noted that the Committee has a goal to support within its authorities in order the EEU becomes a united market with equal opportunities for all member countries.

The Committee will work in accordance with formed agenda, meeting twice a year with the colleagues of the Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Links with Compatriots of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.
