CEC Report on Extraordinary Elections Presented

On February 15, at the extraordinary sitting of the RA NA Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs moderated by Vladimir Vardanyan the Chairman of the Central Electoral Commission Tigran Mukuchyan presented the report on the activity of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) on Extraordinary Elections of 9 December 2018 of the RA National Assembly.

Tigran Mukuchyan informed that the preparation and the organization of the parliamentary extraordinary elections was implemented in accordance with the requirements of the RA Electoral Code.

The voting of the extraordinary election of the National Assembly being held from abroad via e mail was organized from November 30 – December 2, 2018 from 8:00 – 20:00 by Yerevan time. 504 citizens out of 729 with the right of voting took part in the voting via e mail.

The speaker noted that the elections were held in the calm and peaceful atmosphere. 2 claims were presented to the RA Administrative Court on the protection of electoral right during the preparation and holding of the extraordinary elections. The decisions or the actions of the CEC with judicial acts have not been recognized legal.

Answering the Committee members’ questions relating to the pre-electoral campaign, social networks and information websites, as well as the cases of tearing the candidates’ campaign wall papers, the CEC Chairman Tigran Mukuchyan has noted that they are aware of the mentioned problems, but the regulations are out of the format of their authorities.
