1 / 3

On February 8, the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs Naira Zohrabyan received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Armenia Sergey Kopirkin.

The sides discussed issues concerning the development of bilateral relations, particularly, the activation of the work between the parliamentary committees of the two states. They touched upon the proposal of holding a joint sitting of the committees being involved with the items of the two legislative bodies’ human rights in the future.

Naira Zohrabyan has noted that the item of having Children's Special Commissioner is also on the Committee’s agenda and the Committee is going to discuss it with the Human Rights Defender.

The interlocutors have also referred to the activity of the delegations of Armenia and Russia, particularly in PACE, the works of which the Russian delegation has been boycotting for already five years, as it is deprived of the right to vote.

The Ambassador proposed Naira Zohrabyan, as Member of the Armenian delegation to PACE, to discuss some regulatory amendments in the Council of Europe, which would protect the MP’s rights. The Committee Chair has noted that the best way of the solution of the problem is the dialogue and has called on the Russian side to continue the contacts with the heads of the Council of Europe, noting that the Armenian side would do its best in order the dialogue would be effective.
