Ruben Rubinyan: Peaceful Settlement of Karabakh Conflict is Main Priority for Armenia

On January 31, the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Ruben Rubinyan received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of France to the Republic of Armenia Jonathan Lacôte and Doctor of Geo-Political Sciences Frédéric Encel.

Welcoming the guests in the National Assembly, Ruben Rubinyan expressed hope that the parliamentary cooperation with the representatives of the international expert community would be more regular and effective.

In the course of the meeting the parties touched upon the regional developments and a number of geopolitical events.

Talking particularly about the Karabakh conflict settlement, the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations has noted that the peaceful settlement is the main priority for Armenia. He highlighted the settlement of the conflict through peaceful negotiation process in the context of the right Artsakh people to their expression of free will.

Ruben Rubinyan emphasized the existence of the constructive atmosphere in the negotiation process, considering inadmissible the use of hate speech at a state level as a threat to the constructive process of the peaceful settlement of the conflict.

The sides also referred to the reform policy adopted by Armenia in the post-revolutionary period.

In this context the holding of fair elections was highlighted as an important step undertaken for democracy. Ruben Rubinyan has noted that the Government is resolute in carrying out an economic revolution and implementing democratic reforms.

The parties also reflected upon the issue of the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide, highlighted the important role of Armenia on the international arena for preventing genocides.

Issues on the activity of the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations were also discussed. Ruben Rubinyan has noted that the Committee is assigned to be a link for coordinating the parliamentary diplomacy.

The sides also emphasized the boosting of closer relations between the parliaments of Armenia and France, as well as cooperation in the international institutions.
