Ararat Mirzoyan Receives Piotr Świtalski

On January 23, the President of the RA National Assembly Ararat Mirzoyan received the Head of the EU Delegation to the RA, Ambassador Piotr Świtalski.

The Head of the Parliament thanked the Ambassador for his role in deepening of Armenia-EU cooperation and expressed readiness to promote the development and deepening of relations.

Ararat Mirzoyan has assured that the newly elected National Assembly is decisive in undertaking the launched initiatives and predetermined programmes and recording results.

Touching upon the ratification process of Armenia-European Union Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement, the President of the National Assembly has noted that it is an important condition for making the reforms and advancing the partnership with the EU on the basis of the system of values. The Head of the Parliament expected the Ambassador’s support in this issue.

The Head of the legislative body has noted that the Armenian side highlights the beginning of the EU entry visa facilitation dialogue for the RA citizens. “I think that this will be also a serious achievement and the relations will reach to a new level of development,” Ararat Mirzoyan said.

The Head of the Parliament expressed hope that the cooperation with the European Union will develop in deepening of democracy, protection of human rights, cooperation with the civil society, the rise of the parliament’s role, the oversight functions, judicial and electoral system reforms and other spheres.

Congratulating Ararat Mirzoyan on assuming his post, the Head of the EU Delegation to the RA, Ambassador Piotr Świtalski emphasized the fact that he became Head of the Parliament that had been formed as a result of free, fair and transparent elections. The Ambassador has underlined that the newly elected National Assembly has all the opportunities for the establishment of the real parliamentarism in the Republic of Armenia. The Ambassador also evaluated the role of the activation of the inter-parliamentary ties and the role of the parliamentary diplomacy in the development of Armenia-EU relations. On behalf of the European Union Delegation Ambassador Piotr Świtalski expressed willingness to actively cooperate for the development of the institutional capabilities of the National Assembly, taking as a basis the needs assessed by the parliament.
