Ararat Mirzoyan Receives Ambassador of Kingdom of Sweden to RA

On January 22, the President of the RA National Assembly Ararat Mirzoyan received Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Sweden to the Republic of Armenia Ulrik Tidestrom.

Welcoming the guest, the Head of the parliament evaluated the cooperation established between the two countries, particularly highlighting the contacts, mutual visits of the legislative bodies and the exchange of experience.

The President of the National Assembly expressed conviction that from now on the cooperation between the parliamentary delegations on the international different platforms would be continuous.

Talking about Armenia-European Union Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement, the Head of the legislative body expressed hope that the Parliament of Sweden would ratify the document within the possible short term, which would boost the further development and deepening of bilateral and multilateral ties.

Touching upon the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement process, the NA President has noted that the position of the Armenian authorities is unequivocal in this issue, and considers possible the solution of the issue exclusively through peaceful means – within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs, and he expects the support of the international community. “It is difficult to negotiate with a party, which makes bellicose statements and wages hatred campaign. It does not impede the process of negotiations, but also causes new problems,” Ararat Mirzoyan said.

The Head of the parliament thanked Ulrik Tidestrom for the assistance shown by the Government of Sweden in the fringes of the programme “Election Support in Armenia” during the extraordinary parliamentary elections, expressing hope that similar cooperation would effectively continue with more expanded agenda.

Touching upon the events held in our country and the current developments, Ararat Mirzoyan said: “Our devotion to democratic values, the protection and freedom of human rights are inscrutable, and I am sure they are irreversible for Armenia. This is a way to democracy and I hope that we’ll steadily go in this direction with the help of the international colleagues.

The Head of the legislative body also expressed gratitude to the Riksdag of Sweden for the adoption of the resolution condemning the Armenian Genocide.

Congratulating Ararat Mirzoyan on the occasion of being elected in the post of the President of the National Assembly, Ulrik Tidestrom expressed conviction that the Armenian-Swedish cooperation would expand in different spheres, the ties would be strengthened not only in the context of inter-parliamentary cooperation, but also at the level of Secretaries General and Staffs of the parliaments.

The Ambassador Tidestrom has assured the President of the National Assembly that they think in Sweden about the revolution happened in Armenia in spring of 2018 that it is the most important guideline for democracy.

He has noted that Sweden highlights the broadening of cooperation in different spheres and from now on is ready to support the implementation of the new initiatives.

The Ambassador has assured that the parliament will not delay the ratification of Armenia-European Union Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement.

The sides highlighted the role of the Swedish Armenian community in deepening of the Armenian-Swedish relations.
