On September 13, the Vice President of the RA National Assembly Eduard Sharmazanov received the delegation headed by the Chairman of the Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Leonid Kalashnikov. The RA NA deputies Gagik Melikyan and Hayk Babukhanyan also attended the meeting.

Welcoming the guests, Eduard Sharmazanov touched upon the Armenian-Russian ally and strategic relations. In this context the NA Vice President has highlighted the development of the parliamentary cooperation on all planes and has added that the RA parliament makes all possible efforts. He referred to the effective work of the delegations of the two countries on the international parliamentary platforms.

Issues regarding the development of cooperation within the framework of the CSTO were particularly discussed. In this respect Eduard Sharmazanov talked about the regional security problems, underlining: “The aspirations of Azerbaijan and Turkey are dangerous not only for the security of Armenia, but also for the region. Those two states serve as a real threaten for the southern borders of the CSTO region.”

In the course of the meeting the sides talked about the issues concerning the organization of the works of holding of the CSTO PA Council and the CSTO PA plenary sessions in Yerevan on October 29-30. Eduard Sharmazanov expressed conviction that the sessions would be held at the proper level.
