On June 19, the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs and Protection of Human Rights Gevorg Kostanyan met with the Ordinary Member of the Petitions Committee of the Bundestag of the Federal Republic of Germany Gero Storjohann.

Welcoming the guest in the RA National Assembly, Gevorg Kostanyan has highlighted the character of the relations with the German Bundestag and dynamics of cooperation, noting that the relations still have great potential of development. He presented the steps taken in Armenia after the constitutional amendments, the functions and the work order of the Committee headed by him. Touching upon the cooperation with the Human Rights Defender Office, the Committee Chair highly assessed their jointly work and the activities of the structure.

Thanking for the warm reception Gero Storjohann greatly emphasized the effective and constructive activity of the Friendship Groups in the parliaments of the two states. He expressed readiness for boosting relations of undertaking practical steps. Gero Storjohann presented the functions and structural peculiarities of the Petitions Committee of the Bundestag.

The sides discussed issues concerning the legislative initiatives, parliamentary oversight, and the procedure of submitting petitions.

The Deputy Chair of the Standing Committee Rustam Makhmudyan attended the meeting.
