Members of RA NA Factions Meet with Delegation of European Parliament

On June 18, the members of the RA NA RPA, Tsarukyan, ARF and Yelq/Way out Factions met with the member of the delegation of the European Parliament being in Armenia, headed by the Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs (EPP) David McAllister.

The Head of the delegation informed that they attentively observed the inner-political events occurred in Armenia during recent months, and today they are here to get acquainted with the situation on the spot, and listen to the political forces’ viewpoints on the further developments and the upcoming programmes. David McAllister has underlined that the European Parliament supports the democratic processes.

The European parliamentarians were interested in the possible amendments of the RA Electoral Code, the term of holding extraordinary parliamentary elections, the broadcast time being allocated to the parties, the prior issues needing solution and the political forces’ opinions on the NK conflict settlement. David McAllister has informed that the European Parliament is concerned about holding of the free, fair and transparent extraordinary elections in Armenia and is ready to support at best.

The member of the RA NA RPA Faction Hakob Hakobyan has noted that now the opposition RPA Faction backs the RA Government in holding the extraordinary parliamentary elections, as well as the solution of the inner problems, the implementation of the foreign policy which has not undergone any changes. In his opinion, the working group should be created in the parliament for the improvement of the RA Electoral Code.

“In the issue of the NK conflict settlement all political forces are of the same opinion,” Hakob Hakobyan noted. The Head of the RA NA ARF Faction Armen Rustamyan has added that the viewpoints of the political forces in Armenia on this issue are unanimous: the conflicting side should take part in the negotiation process, as not taking part in the negotiations disturbs them being full. Armen Rustamyan also has informed that the new realities in Armenia have the goal to increase the public trust towards the elections, fight the corruption, prevent the emigration and encourage the repatriation.

The member of the RA NA Yelq/Way out Faction Lena Nazaryan has referred to the velvet, non-violent revolution and noticed that its results are already visible. In her word, the holding of the extraordinary parliamentary elections and the anti-corruption fight have been noted as a priority in the programme approved recently in the RA Government.

The member of the RA NA Yelq/Way out Faction Edmon Marukyan considered necessary the improvement of the RA law on Parties and making strict the punishments designed for electoral fraud.

The Secretary of the RA NA Tsarukyan Faction Vahe Enfiajyan also talked about the necessity of the improvement of the RA Electoral Code, highlighting the holding of free, fair and transparent elections which would reflect the voters’ real opinions.
