On May 25, the RA NA Deputy Speaker, the Head of Armenia-Slovakia Friendship Group Eduard Sharmazanov met with the Speaker of the National Council of the Republic of Slovakia Andrej Danko.

The Deputy Speaker of the RA Parliament expressed his gratitude to Andrej Danko for supporting the organization of the exhibition with the heading Parliamentarians against Genocides dedicated to the 70^th anniversary of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of the Genocide adopted by the United Nations General Assembly. He highly assessed the contribution of Andrej Danko and the Parliament of Slovakia to the international condemnation process of genocides, in this context highlighting the recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide by the National Council of Slovakia in 2004.

Touching upon the development of the inter-parliamentary cooperation, the sides emphasized the activation of the mutual visits, the cooperation at the level of Friendship Groups, the effective cooperation in the issues of bilateral interest on the international parliamentary platforms.

Eduard Sharmazanov presented the regional and RA inner-political situation, noting: “To my conviction the democratic values in Armenia should not have alternative, Armenia will steadily go on through democratic development, respecting the pluralism.”

Talking about the settlement of Nagorno Karabakh problem, the NA Deputy Speaker reaffirmed the position of the Armenian side to solve the conflict exclusively through peaceful negotiations, within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship. He positively assessed the balanced position of Slovakia in the settlement of the NK problem.

“Azerbaijan, distorting the essence of the conflict, the NK problem tries to present territorial dispute; meanwhile it is a struggle of the people's execution of the right to self-determination, freedom and independence. The international recognition of Artsakh independence has no alternative,” the RA NA Deputy Speaker underlined.

Regarding the RA-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement, Eduard Sharmazanov expressed hope that the Parliament of Slovakia would ratify the document within short period.
