At Special Sitting of RA National Assembly Nikol Pashinyan Elected RA Prime Minister
1 / 9

On May 8, the RA National Assembly convened a special sitting to discuss the item of the RA Prime Minister's election with the force of law, under Paragraph 3 of Article 140 of the RA Constitutional Law the NA Rules of Procedure.

The RA NA Speaker Ara Babloyan has noted that by the established order of the Paragraph 3 of Article 149 of the RA Constitution and the Paragraphs 6 and 7 of Article 149 of the RA Constitutional Law the NA Rules of Procedure, at least one third of the RA NA deputies nominated Nikol Pashinyan as a candidate for Prime Minister.

The member of the RA NA Yelq/Way out Faction Lena Nazaryan presented the Prime Minister's nominee. “It is a great joy to present a leader of popular, peaceful revolution and a nominee enjoying the support of the people's majority in the RA Prime Minsiter's Office,” she said. Touching upon the nominee's passed path, the MP has noted that an opportunity is given not to go against the people of Armenia, the state interests, the national security of Armenia and Artsakh and called on to make use of that unique opportunity.

Afterwards the RA Prime Minister's nominee Nikol Pashinyan delivered a speech.

The RA NA deputies Aram Sargsyan, Ararat Zurabyan, Lena Nazaryan, Naira Zohrabyan and Ararat Mirzoyan gave speeches.

As a continuation to Lena Nazaryan's word, the RA NA Speaker Ara Babloyan said: “Yes, the world was surprised, surprised by the behaviour, posture of Armenia, but I think that we can especially mention that the world was surprised by the behaviour of the power, the posture of the law enforcement bodies, for not intervening and putting pressure on the peaceful demonstrations, keeping them from different dangers and different provocations. This also the world appreciated and was surprised.

The RA NA Factions expressed their viewpoints.

Edmon Marukyan presented the viewpoint of the RA NA Yelq Faction, informing that the Faction will unreservedly support the implementation of the programmes of the government to be formed.

The Head of the RA NA ARF Faction Armen Rustamyan has noted that the Faction has not changed its position: today it does not only defend, but has also proposed Nikol Pashinyan's candidacy in the Prime Minister's Office.

The RA NA Deputy Speaker Mikayel Melkumyan has presented the viewpoint of the RA NA Tsarukyan Faction on the Prime Minister's candidacy, noting that their nominee is Nikol Pashinyan, and their party is with the people.

The Head of the RA NA RPA Faction Vahram Baghdasaryan has stated that the viewpoints of the faction on the nominee have not been changed, but as it has been stated before that the RPA has made a decision to support the nominee proposed by the 1/3 of the MPs to settle the unstable situation created in the country.

In his final speech the RA Prime Minister's nominee Nikol Pashinyan thanked the ARF, Yelq, Tsarukyan and RPA factions for their expressed positions. He has underlined that the page of hatred should be closed in the Republic of Armenia. In Nikol Pashinyan's word, everybody is convinced that the hatred will not lead our state, our people to any good place, and mutual respect, the respect towards the word and rights should become reality.

Nikol Pashinyan was elected the RA Prime Minister with 59 for and 42 against votes.

Expressing his gratitude to the MPs for voting and their position, the RA newly elected Prime Minister has noted that he serves the Republic of Armenia and its people.
