On April 13, the RA NA Deputy Speaker Mikayel Melkumyan and the members of the Inter-Parliamentary Committee on Cooperation between the RA NA and RF Federal Assembly met with the delegation led by the Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the RF Republic of Karelia Elissan Shandalovich.

Welcoming the guests in the parliament, the RA NA Deputy Speaker Mikayel Melkumyan expressed hope that such mutual visits would promote the development of the Armenian-Karelian relations.

The RA NA Deputy Speaker highlighted the cooperation in the spheres of tourism, trade-economy, high technologies and health care.

Touching upon Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement, Mikayel Melkumyan has noted that it is a key issue for Armenia, and the problem shall be solved within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group.

The Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the RF Republic of Karelia Elissan Shandalovich expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and congratulated the elect-President of the Republic Armen Sargsyan on the inauguration ceremony. He expressed readiness to promote the development of the mutually beneficial ties in different spheres.

The members of the Inter-Parliamentary Committee on Cooperation underlined the necessity of expansion of cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries which in its turn would be an impetus for the rapprochement and development of the relations.

The sides reached an agreement to enliven the mutual visits, implement exchange of experience and elaborate programmes in the business sphere, also including the marzes.

The Secretary of the RA NA Tsarukyan faction Vahe Enfiajyan, the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Territorial Administration, Local Self-Government, Agriculture and Environment Vardevan Grigoryan and the Chairman of the Employers' Republican Union of Armenia Gagik Makaryan took part in the meeting.
