On March 19, at the RA NA Standing Committee on Health Care and Social Affairs a meeting was held with the members of the Inclusive Coalition for Legal Reform and the American expert John Wodatch.
The parliament passed in the first reading the RA Law on Protection of Rights and Social Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities. The draft law has been reviewed for a long time and there is need to study the international experience now. The Committee members discussed with the American expert the problems of protection of rights of persons belonging to this group. The sides touched upon the obstacles which had emerged on the way of law enforcement. To make the law more flexible and expedient, as the Committee Chair Hakob Hakobyan has noted, there are distinct directions around which works shall be implemented. Those problems are: protection of rights with disabilities, employment, the provision of the education accessibility, as well as the convenience of the public transport.
The RA NA Standing Committee on Health Care and Social Affairs with the participation of the concerned sides will hold parliamentary hearings to discuss the abovementioned problems in the future.
