Biography of Chair of RA NA Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs and Protection of Human Rights Gevorg Kostanyan

He was born on October 4, 1977 in Yerevan.

After finishing the secondary school in 1994 he entered the Law Department of Yerevan State University and in 1999 graduated from it

In 2006 he studied at the University of Nottingham of Great Britain.

He became Doctor of Philosophy and Law of the RA NAS (National Academy of Sciences) Institute.

In 1999-2001 he served in the RA Armed Forces.

During the same period he was Post Graduate of Yerevan State University (YSU), became Candidate of Law.

In 1995-1999 he was First-Class Counsellor at the Department of Legal Affairs of the RA Ministry of Justice.

In 2001-2003 he was Adviser to the RA Minister of Justice.

In 2002-2013 he was Lecturer at YSU Faculty of Law.

In 2003-2005 he was Lecturer in RA Police Academy.

In 2003-2004 he was Deputy Chief of Staff of the RA Ministry of Justice.

In 2006 he was Adviser to the RA Minister of Justice.

In 2006-2008 he was RA Deputy Minister of Justice.

In 2008-2011 he worked Assistant to the RA President.

In 2011-2013 he was RA Military Prosecutor, RA Deputy Prosecutor General.

Since 2013 he was Member of the Professional Commission on Constitutional Reforms adjunct to the RA President.

In 2013-2016 he worked as RA Prosecutor General.

Since 2004 until now he is the RA Representative European Court of Human Rights.

From January to April 2017 he is the RA President’s Adviser.

Since 2017 until now he is the RA NA deputy.

He is Doctor of Legal Sciences, Associate Professor, Second Class State Adviser of Justice.

His diploma work of YSU Legal Law is The Bribe and Responsibility for it.

The study theme of the University of Nottingham of Great Britain is Implementation of European Convention for Human Rights.

The post-graduate theme of Legal Sciences is the Constitutional-Legal Status of the RA National Assembly.

The theme of the Doctor of the Legal Sciences is The Concept of the RA Courts and Its Borders in the Context of the European Convention Settlement (arrest, detention and fair judicial examination).

He is married, with two children. He is non-partisan.
