Mikayel Melkumyan Meets with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France to Armenia

On February 22, the Vice President of the RA National Assembly met with Jonathan LacĂ´te, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of France to Armenia. The Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on European Integration Naira Zohrabyan took part in the meeting.

Welcoming the Ambassador, Mikayel Melkumyan highly assessed the current level of the relations between Armenia and France, underlining the effective cooperation of the legislative bodies of the two countries, and the importance of actively developing the inter-parliamentary relations.

The NA Vice President presented the parliamentary activities of Tsarukyan Faction and touched upon the steps taken in the country after the constitutional reforms.

In response to Naira Zohrabyan’s question, when the Republic of France is going to ratify the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement signed between the RA and EU, the Ambassador has assured that the ratification process will not be late.

The Committee Chair has noted that the visa liberation negotiations with Europe are delaying. Noting that there are problems connected with the irregular migration, the Ambassador has assured that they will try to regulate the issue.

Assessing the role of France in the world political culture, the RA NA Vice President underscored that the cooperation with each other would promote the strengthening of the democratic institutes in Armenia, as well as the enhancing of the civil society.

The interlocutors touched upon the expansion of the goods turnover between the two countries, the expansion of the cultural ties, as well as the events being held ahead of Francophonie Summit.
