RA NA Deputy Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov Meets His Belarusian Counterpart

On September 13 the RA NA Deputy Speaker, Co-Chair of the Inter-Parliamentary Committee on Cooperation between the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia and the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Eduard Sharmazanov met with the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, Co-Chair of the Inter-Parliamentary Committee Viktor Guminsky.

Welcoming the guest in the National Assembly, the RA NA Deputy Speaker highly assessed the Armenian-Belarusian relations based on the traditional friendship and mutual understanding, noting that the parliamentary format is an important platform for the development of bilateral strategic relations. In this context Mr Sharmazanov highlighted the role of the bilateral Inter-Parliamentary Committee, which had done sufficient work.

Touching upon the problems of regional security, the NA Deputy Speaker has highlighted the peaceful settlement of Nagorno Karabakh issue within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group that the war is not the path for the settlement of conflicts. Mr Guminsky in his turn has noted that Belarus is exclusively for the peaceful settlement of Artsakh conflict.

Eduard Sharmazanov invited the Belarus parliamentarians to take part in the events dedicated to the centenary of the Armenian Genocide to be held in April 2015.

Viktor Guminsky in his turn highlighted the role of the Inter-Parliamentary Committee, noting that it effectively functions for already 10 years. Referring to the Armenian Genocide, he underlined that the MPs’ should do their utmost in order such tragedies would never be repeated.

Both sides emphasized the cooperation within the framework of international parliamentary organizations and also touched upon other issues of mutual interest.
