RA National Assembly President Hovik Abrahamyan Visits Cafesjian Museum

Within the framework of the action dedicated to the International Museum Day on May 18 the Speaker of RA National Assembly Hovik Abrahamyan visited Cafesjian Museum.

The International Museum Day has appeared in the calendars of all countries from 1977 and by today May 18 passes under a slogan, which has been adopted by the International Council of Museums (ICOM). The slogan of 2010 is ‘Museums for Social Harmony.’ Responding to this slogan the Armenian National Committee of International Council of Museums and the Association of the Museum Workers and Friends NGO initiated the action under the heading ‘The Cultural Heritage is Accessible For Everybody.’ The Chairman of RA NA Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Youth and Sport Artak Davtyan, the Minister of Culture Hasmik Poghosyan, the RA Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Jemma Baghdasaryan, the handicapped people and children of the orphanages attended the action.

The Speaker of the National Assembly walked in the park of the monumental sculptures of the sculptors of world fame, later in the museum took part in the action dedicated to the International Museum Day, the aim of which was to make accessible the cultural centers, as they are not adjusted for the visitors with needs. In his talk with the handicapped people, children of the orphanages Hovik Abrahamyan noted that the organization of this event for the visitors having special problems was very important, but it was necessary that they would have opportunity to see the museum exhibits during the whole year. “I am ready to help the organizations, orphanages and elderly homes, which would like to visit the cultural centers. We must also think for sloping platforms,” the NA Speaker said.

The Director of the Association of the Museum Workers and Friends NGO and the Armenian National Committee of International Council of Museums Marine Hartoyan thanked the RA NA Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan for assisting to publish the Museums Periodical, as well as permanently helping the handicapped people and touching upon the cultural problems and assisting to solve them.

The Ministry of Culture handed a golden medal to the Executive Director of Unison NGO Armen Alaverdyan for developing public activities, and the latter taking the advantage, asked the RA NA Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan to help Paros Chamber Choir in getting state status. The NA Speaker promised to support them and noted that the problems of the handicapped people were permanently at the center of his attention, and many events were organized for the handicapped people in the National Assembly.

Later the RA NA Speaker and those present listened to Paros Chamber Choir. The prevailing majority of the members of the choir are handicapped people.

Hovik Abrahamyan visited Cafesjian Museum, in particular Grigor Khanjian Exhibition Hall.

In his talk with the journalists the Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Youth and Sport Artak Davtyan highlighted his visit to the Cafesjian Center for Arts, which was dedicated to the International Museum Day. Touching upon the singing of Paros Chamber Choir he said that a proposal was made by the NA Speaker in the parliament to organize hearing of the choir and in the nearest future the NA Staff and the Committee headed by him would launch the conduct of the cultural event.
