CE General Secretary Terry Davis’ Answer
To NA President Artur Baghdasaryan
In connection with the barbarian destruction of the khachkars (cross stones) in the Armenian cemetery of Old Jugha, RA National Assembly President Artur Baghdasaryan sent a letter to Terry Davis, General Secretary of the Council of Europe, calling for preventing the destruction of the Medieval historical monuments.
In response to the letter Terry Davis, General Secretary of the Council of Europe, noted that CE attaches great importance to preservation of cultural values and informed that and concerning the destruction of the places of cultural heritage in South Caucasus proposed to send a fact-finding mission to Nakhijevan and Nagorno Karabakh and in future the Council of Europe Secretariat will send the members of that mission to the region.
