Discussion at RA NA Standing Committee on Health Care and Social Affairs

On October 19, the RA NA Standing Committee on Health Care and Social Affairs organized a round-table on the themes The Women’s Agenda and The Boosting of the Women’s Participation in the Political Processes in Armenia. The Women’s Agenda was worked out in the frameworks of the Equal programme being held by the OxYGen for Protection of Youth and Women’s Rights Foundation jointly with the ProMedia-Gender and Family Academy NGOs, as well as Oxfam Armenia Office.

The female deputies of the RA NA RPA, the RA NA Tsarukyan, the RA NA ARF Factions, the Country Director, Armenia of Oxfam Margarita Hakobyan, the Executive Director of the OxYGen Foundation Ruzanna Stepanyan, the Policy Advocacy Programme Officer of the OxYGen Foundation Anush Khachatryan, the Public Relations Officer of the OxYGen Foundation Lilit Kochinyan, the Head of ProMedia-Gender NGO Tamara Hovnatanyan, the expert of ProMedia-Gender NGO Lilit Zakaryan, expert Gina Sargizova and the journalist of ProMedia-Gender NGO Anush Nersesyan took part in the discussion.

The round-table participants listened to the key interpellations of the The Women’s Agenda, then discussed them: the issues relating to the women’s participation in the state policy and the obstacles, the ways of their overcoming, the provision of the women’s economic opportunities, the expansion of the women’s participation in the labour market, the women’s and men’s equal rights and equal opportunities.

The participants of the discussion have noted as a problem the fact that the women don’t take part in making decisions on the development of the country, as they are sufficiently represented in almost all branches and levels of the power.

The RA NA deputies Naira Zohrabyan, Margarit Yesayan, Shushan Petrosyan, Ruzanna Muradyan, Jemma Baghdasaryan, Armenuhi Kyureghyan, Luiza Sargsyan, Shushan Sardaryan, Iveta Tonoyan, Marina Margaryan answered the guests' questions, presented the legislative draft laws being revised in the solution of the raised problems, highlighted the steps taken to the rise of the women's educational level, noted the positive changes made on the women's and men's rights and opportunities.

Both sides emphasized the implementation of similar discussions and the discussion of the concerning issues.
