Armen Ashotyan: Armenia is a Country Exporting International Security

On July 21, the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Armen Ashotyan received Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Republic of Armenia Richard Mills.

Welcoming the Ambassador in the National Assembly, Armen Ashotyan highly assessed the bilateral relations also at the inter-parliamentary level. In this context Armen Ashotyan highlighted the efficient cooperation between the relevant Committees of the two countries’ parliaments and the activation of the contacts between the parliamentary Friendship Groups.

In his turn Ambassador Mills congratulated Armen Ashotyan on being elected in the post of the Committee Chair and emphasized the deepening of the inter-parliamentary cooperation.

“The Standing Committee of Foreign Relations is one of the key structures of the parliamentary diplomacy. We expect to continue already formed partnership with the Committee, now under your skilful leadership and with new members, and record new and new achievements on the way of strengthening of bilateral relations,” Richard Mills said.

In the course of the meeting the sides also touched upon the formation of the Analytical Council Working Group created on the initiative of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations and the goals of the activities. In this context the possible directions of cooperation with the U.S. Embassy to the Republic of Armenia were discussed.

The parties referred to the regional problems. The interlocutors attached importance to providing stability and security in the region and the peaceful settlement of the existing conflicts.

In this context, regarding the settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict, Armen Ashotyan emphasized the peaceful solution of the issue, providing stability and security in the region and highly appreciated the role of the USA in this issue as OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair country. Armen Ashotyan has underlined that Armenia expects more addressed approaches from the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs.

Referring to the directions of cooperation of the two countries, in his word the Ambassador has underscored that Armenia-USA relations are firm.

At the end of the meeting the sides also talked about the further cooperation and works to be done.
