On June 23, the RA NA Speaker Ara Babloyan and Judith Farnworth, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to the Republic of Armenia signed a Letter-Agreement, by which the Government of the United Kingdom designs to implement a project on capacity-building for the RA National Assembly.

The project for the RA National Assembly will be directly implemented by the International Centre for Human Development.

After signing the Agreement, the RA NA Speaker Ara Babloyan noted: “Today we signed an important document, which is the launch of the new quality cooperation. By the RA Constitution the authorities reserved to the RA National Assembly and the enhancement of the parliament’s role suppose expansion of the legislative body’s functions, capacity building of the Standing Committees and the Staff.” Highlighting the study and the use of the best practice, Ara Babloyan has noted that the parliament is open for cooperation, and the projects to be jointly elaborated will be implemented in the future.

In her speech Judith Farnworth, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to the Republic of Armenia, has underlined that the United Kingdom, having long-term experience of the parliamentary government, welcomes the Constitutional amendments going on in Armenia, aimed at the shift of the country into parliamentary system of government.

In the Ambassador’s word, the signing of this Agreement gives an opportunity to establish close ties between the two parliaments for building parliamentary oversight mechanisms and the capacity-building of the Staff.
