Koryun Nahapetyan Receives the Director of the OSCE Conflict Prevention Centre

On September 17 the Chairman of the RA NA Standing Committee on Defense, National Security and Internal Affairs Koryun Nahapetyan received Marcel Peshko, Director of the OSCE Conflict Prevention Centre. The Head of the OSCE Office in Yerevan, Ambassador Andrey Sorokin, National Responsible for the Political-Military Program Davit Harutyunyan and Martin Schuster, Policy Support Officer in the OSCE Conflict Prevention Centre, also took part in the meeting.

During the meeting the negotiation process directed to the issues concerning the peaceful settlement of the NK conflict within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group, the recent cases in the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and in the line of contact with the NKR. Marcel Peshko shared the Armenian side's concerns and underlined the readiness of the OSCE to have greater contribution to the negotiation process. He has assured that in 2016 during the chairmanship of Germany in the OSCE the NK issue will be one of the important themes of the agenda. At the same time he expressed concern on the occasion of the shutting down of the OSCE Office in Azerbaijan.

Koryun Nahapetyan highly assessed the role of the OSCE Office in Yerevan, the reforms of the armed forces and police system in the RA, in the support of the democratization processes of Armenia and in other spheres with priorities by the OSCE. He expressed readiness to continue the effective cooperation of the National Assembly and the Committee with the OSCE.

The sides also touched upon the process of the RA Constitutional reforms and the further developments conditioned by them.
